Thinking of Laying Out @ the Pool This Weekend? Be Safe!
Hey MSF! It sure has been hot lately, hasn’t it? The best way that I know to cool off is to take a dip in our beautiful pool. I’ve actually been waiting for this all summer. Swimming is my stress reliever, whenever I’ve hard a hard day, I just let the water rushing past me carry me away. Swimming is also my workout. Instead of killing myself by running terrain, I may work out in Madison at Schillings Farms workout center, but I’d much prefer swimming.
With swimming comes rules however. You have to make sure to stay safe when in any water of any kind. Here are a few tips to help you, your little ones, and your friends stay safe while splashing in those sparkling blue waters in our pool, or vacation:
- Keep an eye on your kids. It’s easy for someone to get dunked by accident. Know where your kids are so if you see them go under you can make sure they come right back up.
- Don’t panic in a riptide. Before you or your kids go in the ocean, make sure you all know what to do if you get caught in a riptide. The key to staying safe is to try to swim parallel to the shore. Don’t fight your way directly back to the beach, but swim sideways until you are out of the current. Wave for a lifeguard and they’ll help get you back to shore safely.
- Take a class in CPR. This training will teach you how to perform cardio pulmonary resuscitation and the Heimlich maneuver.
- Make sure a responsible adult is watching children in the pool or at the beach at all times.
There are also a list of pool safety tips and rules outside of the Madison Schilling Farms pool. Make sure you consult them before swimming.
Have fun!
